Armanirey Dances
Armani Rey Colón
Armani Rey Colon is a queer Latino dancer, choreographer, and multidisciplinary artist originally from Chicago, Illinois, now based in Washington, D.C., within the DMV area. He began his formal training at The Chicago High School for the Arts, where he studied Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Partnering, and Contemporary dance.
He is set to graduate in Spring 2025 with a BFA in Dance from The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, under the direction of danah bella. Throughout his training and professional development, Armani has worked with renowned choreographers including Kevin Lega, Bernard Brown, Vincent Thomas, Diedre Dawkins, Mike Esperanza, and Homer Hans Bryant—an experience that has shaped his rich, versatile approach to movement and performance.
Outside of performance, he is passionate about community-based work and is interested in using dance as a means of connection, empowerment, and cultural expression—especially through the lens of his queer, Puerto Rican identity and experience as a male-identifying dancer. Armani’s work often challenges traditional norms within dance spaces, making room for softness, strength, and fluidity to coexist, while still honoring the classical techniques and foundational methods that shape the form in a way that values and appreciates dance through a constructive, respectful lens. As he steps into the next chapter of his career, he continues to seek out creative environments that value innovation, inclusion, and radical joy, with a commitment to uplifting underrepresented voices through movement.
